EPC to BPMN Conversion

Convert EPC to BPMN

The Convert EPC to BPMN feature allows users to convert process models created using Event-Driven Process Chain (EPC) notation into Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) models.

The conversion can be started in two ways:

  • by selecting an EPC model in the Explorer and choosing Report → Convert EPC to BPMN from the toolbar, or

  • by opening the EPC model first and then selecting Report → Convert EPC to BPMN from the toolbar.

When the conversion is initiated, a dialog opens in which a destination folder must be selected. After confirmation, the conversion process starts and the resulting BPMN model is saved in the selected folder.

Conversion Options

During the conversion, users can choose between two conversion modes:

  • Application-oriented conversion
Focuses on process flows and functions, emphasizing system and application-related aspects of the process.

  • Role-oriented conversion
Focuses on roles and responsibilities, emphasizing human interactions and organizational involvement in the process.

The appropriate conversion mode should be selected based on the intended use and perspective of the BPMN model.

The conversion generates a BPMN model based on predefined transformation rules. Depending on the complexity of the original EPC model, manual adjustments may be required to ensure correctness, completeness, and modeling best practices.

It is therefore recommended to review the converted BPMN model carefully and apply any necessary refinements.
