Explorer Tab Overview
The Explorer tab is the central navigation component of the Business Modeler and provides access to all modeling content. It allows users to browse and manage databases, folders, models, and object definitions based on their assigned read and write permissions.
Within the Structure Bar, users can navigate through their databases and folder structures to locate and open models, organize content, and access related objects. The hierarchical structure supports efficient navigation and helps keep large model repositories clearly organized.
The Explorer tab consists of several interconnected parts that work together to support navigation and interaction:
-
Toolbar – Provides actions for creating, editing, import, export, searching, and managing content.
-
Search Bar – Allows users to quickly find databases, folders, models, or objects within the repository.
-
Structure Bar – Displays the hierarchical folder structure and is the primary area for navigating through content.
-
Description Bar – Displays additional information and context for the currently selected element.
The Explorer tab serves as the primary entry point for navigating, organizing, and managing modeling content within the Business Modeler.
Structure Bar
The Structure Bar is part of the Explorer tab and displays the folder structure of the repository. It represents the main area in which databases and their contents are visually organized and navigated.
The structure contains three main element types:
-
Databases
-
Folders
-
Models
Optionally, object definitions can also be made visible within the Structure Bar, allowing direct access to reusable modeling elements.
Databases/Profiles
This is the first window that appears after login. It presents all databases that are currently active.
You can only create a folder directly in a database.
Folders
The screenshot shows a folder structure.
In the selected folder you can create a model or a new folder.
Models
Models must be created within the folder. Models cannot be created directly in a database.
The different types of models that can be created are explained on page Model Processes.
Model preview
By selecting a Model in the Structure bar a preview of the selected model will appear within the Description bar in addition to the listed objects.
Model Status Attribute
If you create Status attribute for a model and select a status, that model will have a status icon in Explorer tab.
The status icon varies depending on which status is selected.
Status of a model can be: approved, in approval process, in progress or not approved.
For more details on Attributes visit page Attributes.
Objects
You can find Object definitions within the Structure bar.
Object definitions are only visible in the Structure bar if you click on the checkbox next to the Show objects label in the lower left corner of the screen.
